Basic Function

HF Sinclair is seeking a Crude Oil Accountant in Dallas who will c onduct complex accounting assignments within Crude Oil Accounting requiring in-depth knowledge of accounting principles and processes related to inventory, payables, and receivables. Responsible for one or two Refinery supply chains as assigned representing purchases ranging from 1-6m bbls / month, $3-$15m of associated logistics expenses and inventories of 500k to 3m bbls. Able to explain complex or sensitive information to other team members, third parties, operations and accounting management. Works independently within policies and procedures with minimal supervision and guidance.   Acts as a resource and lead position for less experienced personnel.

Job Duties

• Manages and prepares journal entries and inventory adjustments as needed and performs account reconciliations
• Manages and prepares reconciliations of perpetual inventory (receipts, deliveries and balances) to pipeline or terminal shipper statements and refinery receipts
• Reviews and interprets commercial contracts and exercises sound judgment in determining the appropriate accounting treatment
• Research discrepancies and perform root cause analysis
• Measures and tracks estimated vs actual vs. scheduled volumes
• Prepares and analyzes transactional reports and records at a high level
• Leads and completes special projects and research tasks involving best practices and process improvements
• Performs inventory valuations
• Monitors the timely completion of routine to complex staff accounting duties and provides training and guidance to less experienced staff

May perform the following duties:

• May create, maintain, and perform a variety of reports/spreadsheets for royalty tax, inventory, pipeline commitments and other related materials
• May verify crude oil volumes and prices with external customers and suppliers
• May perform lease crude specific duties consisting of severance tax reporting, royalty payments and reporting, update and verification of pricing and tax rates and reconciliation of lease payables sub ledger to the general ledger
• May prepare and confirm a variety of wire transfer and payment requests
• May submit, track and analyze master file additions, changes

Special assignments projects or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion

Experience

A minimum 3 – 5 years of work experience is required.

Education Level

A minimum of a bachelor’s degree, in accounting, finance or related field, is required.

PREFERRED EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:

M a s t e r ’ s d e g r e e or C P A d e s i g n a t i on d e s i r e d.

Required Skills

Ability to perform moderate accounting analysis and mathematical calculations. A broad understanding of accounting practices and procedures is required. Exercises sound judgement to identify, troubleshoot and resolve day-to-day technical and process problems. Ability to communicate effectively with others, both written and verbally. Must have advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, experience with accounting software. Ability to utilize analytical skills to understand and explain crude movements. An ability to communicate in a professional manner and establish effective working relationships with internal operations and external customers. Demonstrate an aptitude for quick learning, as well as ability to problem solve outstanding issues by working with various departments and external parties.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

Experience with SAP FI/CO, BI Reporting accounting software.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

Must be able to lead projects and assignments with accuracy and efficiency.

Work Conditions

Office based, up to 20% Travel required.
