JOB DESCRIPTION: Maritime Demolition and Environmental Services is seeking a reliable and hardworking Demolition Worker to join our construction team in Dartmouth. The successful candidate will work as part of a crew performing demolition and site preparation activities on various construction and environmental remediation projects throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality.

 

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Load, unload and transport construction materials, demolition debris and tools to and from work sites
  • Demolish buildings and structures using hand and power tools according to established safety procedures
  • Remove rubble, debris and other waste materials from demolition sites using wheelbarrows, carts or trucks
  • Sort, clean and pile salvaged materials such as lumber, steel, fixtures and bricks for reuse or recycling
  • Assist in setting up and dismantling scaffolding, ramps, catwalks and barricades at construction sites
  • Operate pneumatic hammers, vibrators, jackhammers and compactors
  • Tend or feed machines or equipment used in construction and demolition
  • Direct traffic at or near construction sites when required
  • Perform site cleanup activities to ensure work areas are safe and free of hazards
  • Assist other trades workers as required
  • Follow all workplace health and safety regulations and wear required personal protective equipment
  • Report safety hazards and equipment defects to supervisor immediately

 

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: Education: Minimum high school diploma or equivalent required Experience: Previous experience in construction or demolition work is an asset but not required; on-the-job training will be provided Certifications: Valid safety certifications (WHMIS, Fall Protection) are assets but training will be provided

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Physical strength and stamina to perform manual labour for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs repeatedly
  • Basic understanding of hand and power tools
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Team player with good communication skills
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Safety-conscious attitude

 

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS: English - Basic oral communication required for safety instructions and team coordination

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Outdoor work in all weather conditions
  • Physically demanding work requiring frequent lifting, bending, and standing
  • Exposure to dust, noise, and vibration
  • Work at heights may be required
  • Personal protective equipment will be provided and must be worn.
