TITLE: LIBRARY ASSISTANT


DEPARTMENT: School

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card within forty-five (45) days of employment.
  3. Two years experience in working with students is preferred.
  4. Must currently possess (or have the ability to obtain upon hire) CPR, AED and First Aid certifications.
  5. Any combination equivalent to training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

JOB GOALS:


The Library Assistant, under the direction of the Principal/Assistant Principal, works with and assists all students with library related and research related activities. The Library Assistant also maintains the overall cleanliness and organization of the library, and facilitates student accessibility to library materials.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:


The following tasks are essential for this position. This list is not inclusive of all responsibilities. Individuals may not perform all of these tasks, or may perform similar related tasks not listed.

  1. Complies with all HIPAA and FERPA related confidentiality requirements.
  2. Develops positive relations with students, parents, school staff and the public.
  3. Assists students with accessing library materials.
  4. Supervises students while they are in the library, and maintains an orderly environment that is conducive to learning.
  5. Supervises students when assigned (in class or in the cafeteria, on the playground, while on bus duty, or on the bus) as assigned.
  6. May assist in other school activities.
  7. May assist in school field trips.
  8. Performs clerical duties related to the needs of the library.
  9. Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:


Knowledge of:

  1. District policies, operations and organization.
  2. Interpersonal skills including tact, courtesy, and diplomacy.
  3. Communication (telephone, email, etc.) etiquette.
  4. Modern office equipment including personal computers and related software.
  5. English language, spelling and grammar.

Skill and Ability to:

  1. Work cooperatively with others and provide a high level of customer service.
  2. Establish work priorities to meet schedules and timelines.
  3. Ability to learn and become proficient in the use of library related software such as Follet, Destiny Quest, and SORA.
  4. Work with students with varying degrees of emotional and behavioral handicaps.
  5. Supervise students and maintain a learning environment.
  6. Maintain organizational structure of learning materials.

  5. Requires the ability to stand for long periods.
  6. Requires the ability to walk long distances.
  7. Is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.

REPORTS TO: Principal/Assistant Principal

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Principal/Assistant Principal in accordance with the provisions of Governing Board policy in evaluation of classified personnel.

TERMS OF


EMPLOYMENT: 9 or 10 months (depending on assignment)

SALARY: Salary for the position is set according to the Classified Salary Schedule determined by the Governing Board.
