Come join the close-knit and collaborative breaking news team at  Syracuse.com and  The Post-Standard .  The  team is comprised of energetic and passionate storytellers with  a broad range of  interests and strengths . As a breaking news reporter, you’ll work with  this staff to build the skills you need for a career in journalism. You will report on a wide range of high-interest topics --including crime , public safety and accountability --for a team at the heart of our newsroom. We’ll help you write with grace, gather high-impact information and advocate for readers.

This position pays between $50,000 to $58,000 annually.

Qualified candidates should have:

• A bachelor’s degree in journalism or communications or related field required


• A minimum of one year in journalism with a proven ability in reporting and writing required. 


• The ability to work quickly, but with accuracy and good news judgment


• Ability to develop sources


• Good understanding of using social media for research and to engage readers


• Digital storytelling skills and open mind to trying new approaches


• Relentless curiosity and a good sense of humor


• Willingness to work a variety of shifts, including nights and weekends

This job requires reliable transportation to meet with sources or cover events.
