Job Description Job Description Siena Catholic Schools of Racine is seeking a part time (28 hours per week) Permanent Building Substitute Teacher to work a regular and consistent schedule of 4 days per week on school days. This position will primarily support St. Catherine's High School, but may be required to sub at one of our other six K-8 schools in Racine, Wi. The pay rate for this position is $20 - $25 per hour based on education level and experience. This position will only work on school days, during the school year. There will be no work available over school breaks or summer. This is a guaranteed weekly schedule, you will not be on call. You may be required to sub at any of our other six K-8 grade schools on days when there is not a need at St. Catherine's High School. Siena Catholic Schools of Racine comprises of six elementary/middle schools and one high school that serve more than 1,600 students. Sharing your skills will guide the organization toward its goal of ensuring excellence in academics, nurturing faith formation, and developing healthy students. Scope and Summary: The Permanent Substitute Teacher works for the duration of the school year and is available to substitute teach in classrooms where a Classroom teacher is absent. This role can expect to cover a variety of short-term and long-term assignments in all subjects based upon the Siena System’s needs. (S)he will be primarily located at Saint Catherine’s High School but may be called upon to support other Siena System Schools grades K-8. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Planning and Preparation: Communicate on a regular basis with other teachers in regards to planning, parent and community contact, and grade level meetings Instruct students in assigned classroom by using lesson plans provided by the teacher or by enacting new lesson plans Convey information to students to prepare them for testing, achieve curriculum goals, and ensure the teacher’s absence does not cause an interruption in classroom instruction Develop lesson plans as needed Maintain Records including but not limited to: attendance, grades, discipline, etc. Gain familiarity with system curriculum and resources Maintain classroom safety Attend and contribute in staff meetings, professional development activities and teacher institutes Classroom Environment: Use the core tenants of the Catholic faith to create an environment of respect, warmth, care and love in the classroom. Instill an expectation of academic excellence among the students. Model the importance of learning through personal interactions, celebrations of achievement, and encouraging words for individual students as well as for the class as a whole. Ensure that classroom procedures are clear, consistent, and well-practiced to maximize all allotted instructional time. Build a classroom culture that is engaging and limits opportunities for students to act out. Monitor student behavior in an effort to be preventative instead of reactive as best as is possible. Observe and respond accordingly to the social and emotional needs of each student. Create a physical learning space that is safe, developmentally appropriate, and supports the facilitation of the curriculum. Instructional Practice: Ensure that students understand the purpose of instruction. Provide clear and thorough explanations of content. Provide learning activities that are relevant to student interests and abilities. Utilize a variety of effective instructional practices and methodologies to deliver content. Continually seek different approaches to meet the needs of diverse learners in the classroom. Professional Responsibilities: Demonstrate the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and character – modeling the love shown by Jesus Christ in support of our ministry as Catholic educators. Self-reflect on professional practice, and be able to identify areas of strength and opportunities for growth. Flexible and willing to adapt to change with short notice Ability to teach day-to-day assignments or longer term assignments. Maintain accurate and updated classroom records. Engage in the professional educational community through participation in small group and staff meetings as well as explore voluntary ways to expand professional practice and growth. Receive professional feedback with a growth-mindset. Collaborate with the School Principal and others in support of school processes and procedures, implementation of school safety plan, and other processes as necessary. Perform all other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree is required. A current Wisconsin Classroom Teacher Licensure is preferred. Depending on the type of license and/or content of the Bachelor’s degree, further education may be required to meet Milwaukee Archdiocese and Wisconsin DPI teacher requirements. Experiences and abilities in the use of technology in the planning and delivery of classroom instruction. Willingness to work in collaboration with all faculty to create a powerful learning community that supports the development of students and staff alike. If the specific teaching assignment includes religious instruction, the Classroom Teacher must be a practicing Catholic.
