Role Overview:

This is an excellent opportunity for students planning to pursue medical school who want hands-on clinical experience. You’ll work directly with our physicians, gaining valuable patient-care exposure while contributing to smooth clinic operations.

Essential Functions:

• Prepare exam rooms and assist during medical, cosmetic, and surgical procedures.

• Scribe and document patient visits accurately in the EMR.

• Perform basic clinical tasks: vitals, patient prep, sterilization of instruments.

• Provide patient education on procedures and aftercare.

• Support the medical team in daily clinic flow.

• Call patient from waiting room and place in exam room.

• Take HPI information as necessary from patients

• Prepare exam room with necessary supplies for exam

• Assist physician with exams and procedures as directed by physician

• Check to assure all labs and reports are in EMR for physician prior to next visit

• Take Rx renewals off telephone line, call into pharmacy, chart renewals

• Screen and highlight laboratory test results for physician review.

• Return phone calls with messages, normal results and advice to patient as directed by physician.

• Clean and stock exam rooms. Notify manager of inventory needs. 

• Maintain OSHA requirements.

Other Responsibilities

• Assist with phones and assist front desk receptionist as needed. Other tasks as directed by your supervisor.

Accountabilities: Physician review of clinical assisting skills and procedures performance. 

Appropriateness of charting in accordance with quality of care and medical legal principles will be reviewed. Patient satisfaction surveys will measure patient satisfaction with staff member.

Job Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree (or in progress) in pre-med, biology, or related field.

2. Strong interest in pursuing medicine or healthcare.

3. Detail-oriented, reliable, and professional demeanor.

4. Prior clinical or scribing experience preferred, but not required.

Skills Required

Knowledge of back office assisting principles. Ability to perform laboratory tests, injections, phlebotomy, CPR training desirable.

Experience Required

1 year experience in medical office medical assisting desirable. 

Physical Standards, including lifting and pushing requirements:

Position requires walking throughout the office setting. Position requires use of both hands to perform injections and procedures. Position requires ability to visually perform and read laboratory test results. Minimal lifting of supplies to cabinets, possible assistance of elderly patients onto exam tables. May have to push patients in a wheelchair.

OSHA Classification exposure to bloodborne pathogens Category I
