Role: As a Principal Software Engineer - Azure Storage, you will have a technical leadership role involved in all phases to ensure Azure Storage remains the most efficient and performant storage solution globally. You will learn about state-of-the-art techniques for building scalable storage systems, distributed systems design at cloud scale, leveraging hardware innovations like DPUs (Data Processing Units), and building/supporting cloud services at scale. Responsibilities: Lead identification of areas across Azure Storage to improve efficiency and reduce costs of the overall storage fleet. Analyze the entire Azure storage fleet to identify and mitigate performance issues while maintaining or improving cost efficiency. Optimize placement of hot and cold data to meet customer performance and capacity requirements while minimizing costs. Collaborate with capacity planning teams to model and plan resource needs effectively. Drive engineering initiatives to achieve cost and performance improvements. Partner with project managers, capacity, and engineering teams to ensure successful adoption of improvements. Develop, document, and prototype new ideas in collaboration with relevant stakeholders. Work with leadership, product management, and other stakeholders to bring new ideas to fruition.
