The Public Safety Officer performs duties to ensure the safety and security of University students, patients, visitors and employees; applies crime risk and safety hazard prevention techniques, methods, practices, and enforces University laws and regulations; exercises the power of arrest as an armed Public Safety Department employee. Primary responsibilities include patrolling assigned areas, confronting suspicious persons, monitoring and reporting safety hazards, investigating and reporting criminal offenses, responding to fire and security alarms, providing assistance to public safety agencies, providing emergency medical care, participating in major investigations or events, investigating vehicle accidents, enforcing vehicle traffic and parking regulations, providing field training for junior officers, and performing other duties as assigned. The role requires interpersonal skills, communication skills, physical and psychological fitness, ability to respond to emergencies, and completion of training programs. Minimum qualifications include an Associate's degree in business, security, safety administration, or criminal justice, one year of experience in a public interaction role, age at least 21, possession of an armed private security officer license, passing psychological and drug screenings, and valid Missouri/Illinois chauffeur and motor vehicle licenses.
