The Calais School is a state-approved, private special education school in North Jersey serving students in grades K through 12 Plus with multiple learning disabilities as well as anxiety, mood, behavior and autism spectrum disorders. 

The Calais School provides innovative academic and behavioral strategies for students ages 5–21. Our curriculum at all levels meets or exceeds the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards. Our goal is to be the best at helping children fulfill their potential. We recognize that every child has unique strengths, gifts, and abilities, and we are committed to cultivating those strengths and helping each student exceed their possibilities.

We have an outstanding opportunity for a School Social Worker to work with our elementary school students, supporting their social, emotional, and behavioral growth within a collaborative, student-centered environment.

Requirements:

Responsibilities:

  • Assess the needs of students.
  • Determines and implements appropriate therapeutic strategies to effect changes in behavioral social interactions of students.
  • Provides individual and group therapeutic counseling to students.
  • Serves as a liaison between families and the school to positively promote collaborative processes in educational and/or career planning for students.
  • Collaborates with school staff and other school system personnel in implementing strategies to promote student learning and transition.
  • Provides staff consultation on behavioral-emotional-environmental issues affecting student participation in the learning/transition process.
  • Conducts staff development on issues related to social-emotional-environmental factors that impact learning and transition.
  • Maintains required clinical records and submits appropriate documents for reports.

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of experience working with special needs students. 
  • Must possess NJ School Social Worker Certification
  • Must possess LCSW or LPC.
  • Effective problem-solving, human relations and communication skills. Must be a team-oriented player.
  • Criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status and a complete physical examination.
