GENERAL PURPOSE

The Student Success Coach is an integral part of the Student Services Division, such as: First Year Experience Program, Career Center, Transfer Center, Destino Center, Completion Counseling, etc. Student Success Coach Interns work closely with students to provide referrals to various programs and services based on student needs. This is a wonderful opportunity for individuals interested in becoming community college counselors in the future. Interested individuals currently enrolled in a bachelor's program, Master's program and/or Doctoral program from an accredited institution are invited to apply for the position. For candidates looking to go the Counseling Route, you must be currently enrolled in a Master's in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT), or Social Work from an accredited institution.

• 16.50 - $19.50 - Entry Level: Must be enrolled in a Bachelor's program.
• 19.50 - $22.00 - Journey level: Must have a Bachelor's degree and currently enrolled in a Master's program.
• 22.50 - $25.00 - Advanced Journey level: Must have a Master's degree and currently enrolled in a Doctoral program.

These are the existing hourly ranges. If you get selected you will work with your department hiring manager and they will place you into a range depending on your experience and education levels. This is an in-person job and candidates will be asked to work at either the Liberal Arts Campus or the Trade, Technology, and Community Learning Campus. Coaches are required to work a maximum of 20 hours per week throughout the Fall and Spring semesters and Summer intersession. Winter Intersession will be optional.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assists students to practice and apply the skills of academic responsibility.
2. Works collaboratively with the area lead to assist Viking Advantage and Long Beach College Promise students by helping them manage and synthesize aspects of their learning experience and to document progress at Long Beach City College.
3. Creates and facilitates workshops and classroom presentations.
4. Facilitates discussions with students based on predetermined topics and for providing referrals to appropriate programs and services based on student needs.
5. Plans and attends regularly scheduled meetings with assigned students and for providing same-day documentation of the meetings.
6. Leverages technology to manage a caseload of students to improve academic outcomes; this includes assisting students with matriculation steps, supporting matriculation events, registration assistance, and verifying completion of all eligibility requirements for Viking Advantage and Long Beach College Promise.
7. Manages a caseload of students on Starfish Early Alert to provide support and referral assistance to the appropriate resource centers.
8. Assists with special projects as assigned by the area lead. This includes supporting events from the office of Student Equity, Student Services, chaperoning transfer tours, registration assistance labs, summer bridge programming, etc.
9. Participates in weekly professional development and meetings to discuss student needs and target students.
10. Creates marketing collateral and how-to guides for students.

Qualifications Education, Training and Experience: There are three levels and each requires a different level of education

1. Entry Level: Must be enrolled in a Bachelor's program.
2. Journey level: Must have a Bachelor's degree and currently enrolled in a Master's program.
3. Advanced Journey level: Must have a Master's degree and currently enrolled in a Doctoral program.

• For candidates looking to go the Counseling Route, you must be currently enrolled in a Master's in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, Marriage and Family Therapist(MFT), or Social Work from an accredited institution.
• You must have at least 1 or 2 years remaining in your degree program

.• Enrolled as a full-time student during main terms (Fall and Spring with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher) • Evidence of demonstrated cultural competency and enthusiasm in serving the diverse academic, socioeconomic, gender identity, sexual orientation, racial, and cultural backgrounds of community college student populations, including students with differing abilities (physical and/or learning), as these factors relate to the need for equity minded. Previous attendance in a community college is highly desired. Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements: A valid California driver's license and ability to maintain insurability under the District's Vehicle Insurance Policy may be required for certain assignments. Hours must be completed within office hours Monday - Friday (8AM - 5PM). • Lead Coaches may be identified from the pool of Student Success Coaches and will be placed higher on the salary scale. • To offer continuity of service, coaches will be required to work at least 3 days per week, minimally 6 hours per day. • Coaches are expected to commit for 1- 2 academic years. Each semester coaches will receive a performance evaluation to determine whether they will continue to the next term.• If the Coaches graduate in the middle of the internship they can stay employed for the remainder of that year. This is up to the discretion of the area lead. • Coaches receive a semester parking permit at no cost and may be assigned to either campus, LAC or TTC. • Coaches are expected to support students on both Long Beach City College campuses which may require travel. • Coaches may need to occasional work evening or Saturday's hours to coverage various college events.
