Nationwide Therapy Group is seeking a travel nurse RN Telemetry for a travel nursing job in Merced, California.

Position: Registered Nurse – Telemetry (Stepdown/PCU Level)

Division: Nursing
Department: Telemetry – 4th Floor
Shift: 12-Hour Nights (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Schedule: 2 weekends every 4 weeks, 2 of 3 major holidays
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Contract Length: 91 weeks
Facility Type: Level II Acute Care
Charting System: Cerner
Dress Code: Navy Blue Scrubs

  Unit Overview

• Unit Type: High Acuity Telemetry – Comparable to PCU/Stepdown level
• Beds: 34
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4
• Charge Nurse: Yes, each shift (typically non-patient assignment)
• Support Staff: Nurse aides available but not guaranteed—may practice primary nursing at times
• Telemetry System: GE monitors (monitored by monitor techs on another unit); RNs must read and interpret their own strips
• Respiratory Therapy: 24/7 onsite
• Pharmacy: 24/7 onsite
• Hospitalist Coverage: 24/7 onsite
• IV Team: None
• Float Requirement: Floats to Med-Surg as needed (travelers float first)

Common Diagnoses / Patient Population

• Post CVA (stroke-certified unit)
• CHF (rule-out and confirmed)
• Respiratory failure (BiPAP use common)
• Diabetes management
• Hypertension
• Non-titrating drips (e.g., Cardizem)
• Heparin drips (titrated)
• Post-Operative surgical patients
• Post cardiac caths / post PCI (travelers not assigned cath/PCI primary patients)

Experience & Candidate Requirements

• Minimum Experience: 2 years recent Telemetry or Stepdown experience required
• Cerner Experience: Preferred; if experienced → 2 shifts orientation, if not → 3 shifts
• Telemetry Proficiency: Must be able to interpret own cardiac strips
• Travel Radius Rule: Must live 50+ miles from facility (no locals)
• Employment Restrictions:
  • Cannot be permanent or per diem at any CommonSpirit facility within past 12 months
  • Cannot maintain a second job ; must prioritize this travel assignment
• Interview Process:
  • Profile review → Traveler completes Smartsheet email form → Clinical review → Manager Zoom interview (if recommended)
  • No prescreen interview before clinical review

Certifications Required

• BLS – American Heart Association
• ACLS – American Heart Association
• NIHSS – Required

Additional Details

• Scheduling: No block or set scheduling; must be flexible
• Call: None required
• Cancellation Policy: Up to 4 shifts per 13-week contract (or 3 for shorter assignments)
• Orientation: Unit-specific, 2–3 shifts depending on EMR familiarity
• Shift Options: 12-hour nights (no rotation required)
• Culture: Collaborative, high-acuity telemetry team with supportive leadership. Staff expects teamwork and adaptability, especially when aide support is limited.

This Telemetry RN position offers a high-acuity environment similar to a Progressive Care/Stepdown Unit . Ideal for nurses experienced in cardiac and neuro telemetry, drips, and respiratory support (BiPAP). The role requires strong clinical judgment, independence, and flexibility with floating and scheduling. This is a traveler-friendly but demanding unit that values professionalism and adaptability.
